  • World Hypertension Day - Magnesium Keeps Heart Rhythm Regular

Magnesium is the fourth most abundant cation in the human body and is considered one of the three elements essential for life, along with air and water. Enzyme databases currently list over 600 enzymes for which Magnesium serves as a cofactor. It is thus directly involved in a large number of essential physiological, biochemical and cellular processes that regulate, among other things, the cardiovascular system and the course of many chronic diseases. A Magnesium deficiency can therefore lead to impaired muscle and nerve function, immune system dysfunction and susceptibility to cardiovascular disease, making adequate Magnesium intake through food or supplements of paramount importance.

To maintain a balanced Magnesium level, the current daily value for Magnesium intake is 420 mg/day. Foods or supplements that contain 84 mg or more of Magnesium meet the definition of a "magnesium-rich" source.

Dr. Paul Lohmann® offers a broad portfolio of Magnesium Salts in various qualities, physical appearances and particle sizes that can be used as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) or as active ingredients in food supplements.

Food supplements get cardiovascular claims from the FDA, which could be as follows:

    • Consuming diets with adequate magnesium may reduce the risk of high blood pressure (hypertension)
    • Some scientific evidence suggests that diets with adequate magnesium may reduce the risk of high blood pressure (hypertension), a condition associated with many factors.
